john and i went to see bruce almighty last night. it was hella hella good. and i was pleasantly surprised. because, frankly, jim carey has been slippin’ lately. i’m all for him doin’ dramatical movies and all, but i feel he’s trying a little too hard sometimes. i mean, he should be chill with bein’ a funny dude. cuz he is, a seriously funny dude. are there are some highly dramatical actors/actressess who just can’t pull off the funny. and while he can pull of the funny with the best of them, he has a decent handle on the dramatical — i liked the truman show. so ya know.
but on to the movie. we got coffee drinks from the vendor woman….mmmm coffee. ooh and she had the same nail polish as me. hehehe…i’m easily amuserated.
so we go into the movie and all and settle down to watch and the theatre is suprisingly empty. granted it’s a fairly early show we went to because sometimes late night public transportation is a bitch, and it was cold and rainy all yesterday (and today too damnit!) i expected more folks for opening night, ya know.
so there are previews, previews previews…and damnit if the one time i’m certain that coke will win the lil race the coke products game it doesn’t. bastards. also shut up, dumb & dumberer. moving on!
jim carey’s hair. wee. that’s how the movie opens, discussing his as yet seen hair and his displeasure at wearing a hair net while he interviews the local mom and pop cookie shop folks. they be makin’ buffalo’s largest cookie. mmm cookie…oh and apparently jim’s character bruce is the local craptacular news anchorman. you know, he does the flufferville stories. which is fine rather fitting for the type of news personality jim seems to be portraying, but apparently jim isn’t happy covering flufferville. he’s aspiring to be an anchorman, not a fluffer. so the cookie shop footage, which contains some hilarity about rat droppings and sprinkles that really shouldn’t be funny but are is something he’s making jennifer aniston (his girlfriend…) watch in their apartment. and there is an ace ventura-esque booty shot that almost makes me believe he’s going to start talking out of his ass any minute. hehehe…apparently rachel is dating jim. because in a way jennifer aniston will always be rachel to me. although she’s not very rachel-esque in this flick, and that’s a good thing. she wasn’t rachel-esque in the good girl but that movie kinda got on my nerves so lets not go there. anyway…they have this cozy apartment and a dog that pisses on every damned thing they own. seriously! and why the fuck do they not clean it up? that really bothers me. john noticed that too, so i’m not that weird. anyway, he’s all “blah blah anchorman blah blah retiring old dude blah blah tagline blah” and she’s like “let’s work on our photo album!” and he’s like “woe is me.” then there’s some funny back and forth about what is apparently a nekkid rachel picture. awww.
despite my initial misgivings, rachel and jim make a nice couple. or at least a halfway believable onscreen couple. not utterly chemistry-less. although it’s clear from the start the that the entire movie is basically a bitchfest for jim. hey! kinda like my blog! hehe…it’s a blog on screen. eee!!!
fade up on morning, rachel wakes up and is all ‘wake up jim’ and he flops around like a crazy fool all ‘noooooooo!!!!’ he actually kinda looks like a dead fish here…but ya know…
ooh! we’re gonna watch the 25th hour now…i’ll come back and recap the rest of BRUCE ALMIGHTY later!
