and i don’t know what…but that motherfucker better leave me the hell alone, ya heard.
now i have more of a clue as to why i felt so god-damned rundown this weekend. which all i have to say is, thank christ for a three day weekend, cuz i’d be so much more wrecked if i had to work yesterday. and something was a little off this past weekend anyway. i had fun and chilled with my main ho & patty. but had a bunch of near-misses shortly after. the boy was bored & in allston (which i didn’t know) and mo was jonesin’ for something to do & in the neighborhood…and we all just kind of didn’t sync up. however, yesterday was some kind of awesome.
not only did i totally not work at all, but mo & i caught brokeback mountain, which i’ve been wanting to see for quite a while. point blank: i liked it. i liked it quite a lot, actually. it was well-acted, well-directed, and beautifully shot. the film was stark and tedious, but in a good way. it wasn’t a breathtaking, mind-altering cinematic experience; and it didn’t quite live up to all the hype, but in a way i like it more because of that. heath ledger had such an amazing performance, really…he just put everything into it. and i mean, jake gyllenhaal is just dreamy. seriously, smokin’ hot. i’ve loved him to pieces since donnie darko — that movie was just plain amazing — and you know someone is talented when they make you endure the presence of jennifer aniston without complaining. both actors did a really great job, actually. even with them trying to ugly up jake by making him appear to “age.” what i don’t get, however, is why everyone in the free world made such a big deal about the fact that there are dudes in this movie who are into eachother. very into eachother, in fact. i mean, in terms of whether or not they’re gay…it doesn’t even outright say it. the movie is tragic and heartbreaking, and that’s all there is to it. it’s not a homosexual agenda, it’s not smut, it’s not a civil rights crusade or attack against morality. it’s just two people who fall in love and find themselves up against circumstance, social constructs & responsibility (and with the shrews that end up playing the wives, i don’t necessarily blame them for turning to the hot manlove).
that’s about as simple as you can make it. it’s not the best film out there. it won’t turn you gay. it may or may not make you cry. it’d be the same movie if it were two women who “just can’t quit” eachother, or a man and a woman — if they end up with the wrong people, it’s the same outcome. but ultimately, it’s a movie i could watch completely without the aid of alcohol and: those dudes are hot.
in other, only slightly less hot news, i totally picked up a CD i’ve been wanting for a while. i had a remixed song that was just so damned good i had to investigate more, and what i turned up was: alpha. searching through newbury comics landed me the disc my remix is off of and the lovely tidbit that alpha is one of the first artists off of massive attack’s melankolic label. hot damn. how in the hell did i not know about this sooner?! either way, i definitely must delve into this a bit more. portishead + massive attack + alpha = extreme hotness. (that said, when the new massive attack album is out in may, I MUST HAVE IT!)
and thus, no matter how disease-ridden i appear to be right now, i have musical glee to keep me going. and if that fails: drugs!
have i mentioned that i’m going to marry jake gyllenhaal when i grow up?
also, is that a roly-poly on your banner? or whatever those bugs are?
