Please pick the correct answer…
hanging is a really out-dated, and gross method of execution:
a.) unless you’re foreign
b.) unless you’re a former dictator
c. ) unless you’re a bush administration trump card
d.) unless you’re in washington/new hampshire
e.) all of the above
i’m still a bit conflicted on the whole saddam hussein sentencing. and not just because he bears a slight resemblance to my daddy.
baghdad burning explains everything far more eloquently than i ever could imagine to try, for one thing. and if you actually think about the whole hanging procedure it really is archaic and ghastly. even more so when you consider who’s responsible for more iraqi (and american) deaths: bush or saddam?
i would feel a bit better about the whole saddam trial proceedings if perhaps he were being tried by the UN rather than one specific government with an exceptional bias. or if they hadn’t have kept chucking out judges for being “too fair”. or if bush were subject to the same trial (pipe dream!) for his crimes against humanity (only on a wider scale than just iraq).
i do think it was very contrived to announce the execution days before a major election, but i also think it totally backfired on the GOP. bush pulled the ‘i win! saddam dies!’ card and did not get a republican-run congress in return. i think that’s only fair. or, as fair as possible.
i only hope that the democrats do take over the senate — no, i do NOT like democrats! — just to keep cheney from having voting power over a 50/50 split senate.
that probably won’t be cleared up till end of november, though.
