let me just preface this by saying that any night that starts with a bunch of delicious, delicious meat is an awesome night. yay pr0k!!!
last night the boy & i went to see the animation show and it was totally amazing. i mean, if you have any idea HOW LONG i’ve been waiting for this to come back…i nearly exploded. my love for don hertzfeldt knows no bounds, really. and the animation show just keeps getting better and better! although, this third installment had more CGI and far less actual art than the last one, but i totally don’t even care! (how awesome is it that i’ve been to all animation shows?!?!?)
all of the films were really fun, and we even saw some local art school films before the animation show started. only one was good, though, and let me just say: FUCK YOU HARVARD VES STUDIES! FUCK YOU HARD!!!!
::ahem::
bill plympton was there, which was cool because he’s like…famous & shit. and i was excited to see the sequel to guard dog, because it was so cute. it was neat to see one of the actual animators there in person. though, i have to say i wish it were don hertzfeldt…cuz um, he’s hot.
but that’s besides the point. the first film was totally awesome and now i have an uncontrollable urge to go out and clobber a horse with a bat. also, squash a rabbit. oh, and even better than that!!! fucking beavis & butthead did the introduction to the animation show vol. 3!! BEAVIS & BUTTHEAD!!!
i am 12 years old all over again. and i love it.
and how fucking much did i love the game over film?! HOW MUCH!?!?! it was just so unbelievably awesome. i was waiting and waiting and waiting for it when i saw it on the website, but actually seeing it was just too cool. my only wish is that it had’ve been longer. as it stands, it was really kick ass & had some of my favorite games in it! centipede, frogger, asteroids, Space invaders, and pac-man…ROCK!!!
now how fucking badly do i want to get animation show vol. 3 on disk!?
of course, if i’m going to be totally honest, the film i didn’t quite get was collision. i didn’t think it was that good, and it was the one voted Most Likely to Induce Seizures. then i read about it…islamic patterns & american quilts…interesting. i would not have thought it was such a political statement, you know? i guess that gives it a bit more depth, oompf & what have you.
but i still wasn’t fond of it. it made my eyes bleed.
and of course, as always, don hertzfeldt is the man. totally and completely. i’d been a big fan of his temporary anesthetics for quite some time, and instantly recognized that “everything will be ok” is a feature expansion of bill. as in, bill goes shopping, bill and the monolith, bill takes a walk. in fact, bill takes a walk is featured in the film. which is just so awesome.
how’s up?
weh.
i really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY need to get the bitter films collection on dvd. possibly even more than i need the animation show vol. 2 on dvd.
and this happens every time.
i go to the animation show, i see hertzfeldt’s work and totally fall in love with it all over again, and obsess over bitter films and spazz out. this is no different.
I MUST HAVE IT!!!
I LIVE IN A GIANT BUCKET!!!!
and just to calm down over the awesomeness of animation right now:
i’m signing my lease tomorrow! for real & for true! huzzah!
the apartment is miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeee!!!
