Just got a new bike and it’s so awesome!!! i love you, bike. love you! i wasn’t exactly planning on buying a bike right now, but there’s a bit of good weather left and i totally needed one so YES, bike time!

isn’t she pretty? i love it, and so comfy! although i did already have a run in with a god damned thorny bush, but still. biiiiiiiiiiiiiiike! and if i can work up the will, mayhaps i’ll ride to work and stuff. here’s hoping. it would save on gas money and let me get some repairs done and such. but you know…bike! i haven’t had one in forever! not since i lived on cambridge street in allston. and that bike got ultra mega trashed. but this one? so pretty, i’m going to love it forever.

just the biggest park ever….

yesterday we went to the giant park near our house, and it was fucking glorious. so pretty! so much to explore! we barely even saw about a quarter of it, i think, but it was really awesome.

we went by farm pond park (next to farm pond, duh) and walked through part of cushing memorial park. i only knew a little bit about each before we actually checked it out, primarily from seeing the giant portions of cushing park when we drove by. but after our trip there, it’s like, YES! we have an awesome park to supplement the slightly smaller awesome park by our house and now we have to go all the time!

Cushing Memorial Park: Has entrances off of Dudley Road and Winter Street. Located on 57 acres, it is the site of a WWII Army Hospital. The park offers walking and passive recreation areas. It also houses Cushing Memorial Chapel, The Academy Building and The Cushing Building. The park is maintained by the Town Parks & Recreation Department.

Farm Pond: Located on Dudley Road, offers fishing, boat access, and walking trails. It is also the site of the start of the Boston Komen 3-Day Walk. This area is maintained by the Town Parks & Recreation Department.

afterwards, we went home to have some memorial day celebratory grilling and i made the world’s most awesome burgers (so far). god bless our local delis and bakeries for keeping us in such delicious fare.

my new (to me) monte carlo arrived today, and oh my god it is GLORIOUS! i’m already finding out all sorts of lovely new things about it. and some things i’ll have to work on. i’ve begun compiling a list…

monte carlo restoration items (to do and/or buy):

replace weatherstripping on passenger side door
install weatherstripping on trunk
opera window chrome trim
sail panel emblems (2)
license plate fasteners (skull) & lock knobs (skull)
replace passenger door lock cylinder
air fresheners
lojack for classics (it’s $400 off!!)
floor mats
steering wheel cover
replacement carpet (probably next year)
additional keyblanks (chevrolet vintage)
look into potential AC units (or aftermarket equivalent/modification)

and the list goes on and on and on, really…i’m just, oh god i’m so excited i can’t even contain myself right now! it’s amazing!

the earliest memory i have of my first car is from when i was about 4-years old. i remember how huge it was, how awesome and powerful-looking and how i always thought it was the perfect car because it was my daddy’s car. and he drove it (and sometimes let my mom drive it) and there was nothing better than riding in that big, beastly thing. all the other cars on the road were nothing compared to this thing, and it was magnificent to look at. i remember pointedly stating that it should be my car (when i was older, kind of…) and to my surprise, my dad said yes. of course, he could have just been humoring me, but i believed him. and, of course, i made sure that he didn’t forget it. and i didn’t care that it was already considered an “old” car by then, i couldn’t help it. so pretty, so powerful. i was smitten.

about ten or so years down the road, it was true. the car was mine. of course, all those years sitting, lying in wait, it took a lot of work and effort and elbow-grease to get the ol’ girl running again. a LOT of work, actually. and there’s something to be said for learning to drive in a big car (and this ol’ girl was a TANK). i can park nearly anything, now. driving modern cars, sedans, coupes, whatever, they’re a piece of cake. even pickups don’t daunt me now. and i went through so, so much in this car. it was amazing, and sometimes it was a total pain in the ass, but it was mine.

it was gorgeous.

and i loved it.

even when it didn’t run and was a rusted out shitbox and falling the fuck apart…

i loved it.
