…sounds dirty.
however, i am going through reading material at an astonishing rate. two days to finish a book…tops. and the only time i devote to it is transit time and breaks at work. the T, buses, steps outside the office, 15 min. morning & afternoon break…this is my prime reading time. and i’m straight devouring everything. but i like it, it keeps me sane. …er, something.
in the past few days i have read:
- the handmaid’s tale – i forget who – borrowed from the boy, a sort of post-apocalyptic, alternate universe setting fucked up mindfuck of a book. but soooo good. one of the few open-ended books that i’ve read and not hated completely. it’s mysterious, interspersed with flashbacks and progressive revelations, nonetheless i loved it. hmm, i may end up reading it again…
- the family – mario puzo – the first crime family, centered around pope alexander II, the godfather‘s author writes an intriguing tale of deception, moral questioning, excess & opulence. and also, brother-sister buttsex. (ok, ok, so it wasn’t buttsex, but still…yicky!) considering my newfound amusement at bible fanfiction items (see also: battlepope!) and whatnot, reading a story about the debauchery of a previously revered and beloved pope was beyond hilarious. the pope = the first don. tee hee!
- heavier than heaven – kurt cobain biography – borrowed this from scooter (who borrowed it from the punktard), made me want to be in a band, listen to nirvana ad infinitum and play guitar all the time. and despite being very fair and unopinionated, it did not make me hate courtney love any less.
- the acid house – irvine welsh – stole this from scooter temporarily, it’s in the vein of trainspotting (same author), highly amusing collection of short stories. copious amounts of buttsex. but i need an scottish-to-english translator for it.
- harry potter & the half-blood prince – j.k. rowling – ::growl:: you know, after re-reading all the DT books i own earlier in the summer, this “series” is a major letdown. seriously. boring, dull, trite… ::yawn:: i won’t spoil it for anyone who has not yet read it, but…blah. although, i believe the main reason is i’m not emotionally invested one iota. i could give a fuck about the characters. 600+ pages in a couple of days…at least i was occupied
- the neverending story – michael ende – i loved the movie as a kid, but never got to read the books. luckily, scooter has it. god bless my
common law wiferoommate. because i’ve already read & reread everything i own, including some i forgot about and a goodish # of the boy’s books. this story is cute, fanciful and entertaining. way refreshing after slogging through the harry potter book.
um, so…yeah…that’s what i’ve read that’s newish in the last few days/weeks. with breaks inbetween where nickers was here, and/or i dug up a book i already read and re-read it. yeah…so…thank christ i have a library card now!
